Wow wow wow – what a finale event!
To start with Liam Tancock, MULTIPLE GOLD MEDALIST, Olympian and current WORLD RECORD HOLDER of 50m Backstroke Long course popped along to wish everyone well, have a few photos taken and undertake race starter duties – we can all tell you that Liam is possibly the nicest fella in swimming, thank you for coming along!
The event itself saw large September fields in both the Junior and Adult races. Congratulations to Nick Martin who posted a new course record at the Deltasimon’s Aquathon on his first outing! Nicks record stands at 21:29 (800m swim / 3000m run) which took a whopping 52 seconds of the previous record held by Jon Bromfield Both are off to the ITU World champs in Rotterdam this month along with 14 other athletes who race at the Aquathon. Can’t say the field isn’t deep in Lincolnshire!
As for the series wins – Well Harriet Johnson and Wayne Stott took the honours there with a fine points lead by both. Both athletes competed in all rounds and had multiple podium places. Harriet finished the series with a first place winning Round 5 and heads off to Rotterdam at an absolute peak!
In the Over 40s Bodhi Cup, Steve Paley took the overall win. Steve is an absolute quality athlete who has represented GB tri all over the world but for one reason or another has not competed much of late, to see him focussed and storming through the field was an absolute pleasure – welcome back. Also Eleanor Weinburg taking honours in the O40 (ahem over 21’s) for the ladies whilst also scooping second spot on the night – great racing.
In the junior race it all came down to the very last lap and Ben Taylor took the win on the night by six seconds from Ashwin Kumar, another very close race and loads of smiling juniors crossing the finish line (one of them with only one shoe!)
A massive well done to all athletes this season and thank you to all of our supporters, sponsors and to Activities Away Lincoln to hosting – we look forward to seeing you all and more next season.
Thanks all – any questions about results or series standings as ever please just ask.
